Starting school is a very important event in a child's life and to enable a smooth transition from the small secure environment of the home to the large environment of the school, communication, patience and understanding are needed by both parents and teachers. At Chyngton we like children to spend some time in school the term before they start so that they can get to know their teacher and meet some of their future class members.
If your child is encouraged to look forward to school as an enjoyable experience and has had some playgroup or nursery school experience, there is usually little difficulty in settling in.
We operate a Home Visit policy, when the classteacher and teaching assistant visit the children before they start at school.
Children start school over the course of a week to enable small groups to develop confidence early.
There is an induction meeting for the parents of our new reception children in the summer term before they are due to start. We discuss all aspects of starting school, visit the classrooms, answer questions, resolve problems and we provide some information that we hope you will find helpful.
Dates and times of visits will be sent to you in the Summer term.
If your child is starting in an older year group, we still wish to maintain close communication with you to support your child's induction. Please bring to the attention of the classteacher any information or concerns you may have that will help to make the best start possible.
