Reception

Our reception classrooms will immediately fill you with excitement, happiness and a desire to play and learn. Both Early Years teachers and Teaching Assistants have many years experience in Reception and we are constantly adapting our teaching to meet the range of needs that we have in our classrooms. We create and plan for a purposeful, engaging and rich environment for your child to learn, have fun, challenge themselves and develop in confidence and ability. We constantly change and tailor the learning environment in and outside of the classroom to suit the needs of the children in the class and to link with our topics. Some of the topics covered include ‘Under the Sea’, ‘All About Me’, ‘Emergency’, ‘living and growing’ and so much more. We welcome visitors into our classroom such as the Sussex Wildlife Trust for forest school activities. One of the EYFS teachers is beach school trained and we have visits from the fire service, postman, paramedic and many others. We also take the children on school trips in the local area as well as further afield to a farm.

Over the course of the year your child will be contributing to their learning journey books which showcases all the fantastic learning and achievements they have made. They love taking these home at the end of the year and they are proud of what they have accomplished in their first year at school. To ensure your child has the best start to school we work alongside you as parents and other professional bodies to support your child throughout the year. This relationship between you and Chyngton begins before your children even start school when we meet you at the open days and visit the children at home and nursery to get to know them before their first day. You will also be welcomed into the classroom for a taster session and a picnic. We are confident that any child in reception at Chyngton will be provided with the foundations to a successful school life and future.
